Cadmium, a toxic heavy metal, has been detected in every lipstick sample tested, raising serious health concerns. Studies published in PubMed link cadmium exposure to kidney damage, lung disease, weakened bones, and nervous system disorders. Long-term use has even been tied to higher risks of cancer. Researchers warn that because cosmetics are often applied near the mouth, ingestion makes the exposure risk even greater than with other products.
