Brain-Eating Amoeba in Tap Water

Deadly Brain-Eating Amoeba Found in Queensland Water Supplies

A rare but deadly amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, has been detected in the drinking water of Charleville and Augathella. Known for a 97% fatality rate, it causes primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) if contaminated water enters the nose.

💧 Important: Drinking or touching the water is safe. The risk arises only if water enters the nose under pressure—like during showering, swimming, or using a neti pot.

🛡️ Precautions: Avoid water entering your nose, stay informed, and follow local health guidance. Authorities are conducting additional testing to ensure community safety.

This is a stark reminder: even our everyday environment can hide dangerous threats. Awareness and simple safety steps can save lives.
